Day 12 - Niagara Falls and Detroit Tigers

So, we got up early this morning and beat the crowds to the falls. Our hotel was close enough to walk and leave the car in the lot.

We're excited about seeing the falls

Before you get on the boat, they give you these flimsy plastic rain ponchos

Being this close to the falls and getting drenched by it's spray is a very inspiring experience.

Apparently, Charlie used his poncho to good effect, afterward, he said he didn't get wet.

The Canada side of Niagara Falls is very tourist-oriented. The boys kept saying they felt like they were in a theme park.

We got into the spirit of things and posed for an old time photo

We left Niagara Falls and started heading towards Detroit. Along the way, we passed Brantford, the home town of our friend Martha and Wayne Gretzky. It's not well known, but Brantford is also known as the "The Telephone City".

Day 12 - mile 4313
6:20pm

We reach Detroit and find a place to park near Comerica Park.

We went through the tunnel from Windsor to Detroit.

Comerica Park is pretty cool. The area is home to the historic Fox Theatre and Ford Field (home of the Lions).

The game started off slow. We were tempted to leave when the Tigers were down 6-0, but fresh from our lesson the previous night in Toronto, we hung on. The Tigers rallied to tie the game in the 7th

The Tigers won it with a home run in the bottom of the 9th. The place went wild. More importantly, the boys and I are now 5 for 5 for the home team on our trip. We'll have to see how the Indians do tomorrow when we see them.

On the way out of town, we passed the old Tigers Stadium.

I read in the paper that they're starting to demolish it. The stadium looked sad and lonely in the dark after all the excitement around Comerica Park.

On the way to Fremont, OH where we're spending the night. We passed Monroe, MI, the birthplace of La-Z-Boy! We also went over the very cool Maumee River bridge on I-280 in Toledo.
